water

Having a water softener can provide several benefits for your home. Having hard water can lead to issues with the pipes and plumbing in your home. One issue is a buildup of calcium deposits and limescale. This is noticeable by a white, chalky buildup around facets or in the bathtub or shower. Having too much limescale can also cause a decrease in water pressure throughout the home. To help improve everything, investing in a water softener will resolve these issues in your home.

How a Water Softener works

A water softener uses ion exchange to help improve the water quality. It is an appliance that is directly connected to the water supply system of your home. It typically trades off calcium and magnesium for other elements, usually sodium, thus making the ion exchange. The reason for this is calcium and magnesium both carry a positive charge and in the water softener, they will cling within the system. As the hard water passes through the tank, the sodium ions remove the calcium and magnesium off of it. The end result is the nice soft water then moving through the pipes in your home.

Without a softener, you may find that you are cleaning more, or using more cleaning products. When using soap with hard water in your home, it will start to form a scum because of the reaction to the calcium and magnesium. This will result in needing to use more soap in order to shower, wash dishes, or wash clothes. There may also be signs of water spots left on these items if you have hard water. Using a softener will prevent the buildup of this scum building up in pipes, showers, sinks, and toilets. Even in the Rochester and Kasson area, there are plenty of homes with hard water. Make sure to improve the quality by investing in a water softener.
