mini-split

As spring rolls into summer, you want to make sure your HVAC system is ready to keep you comfortable when those dog days of summer hit. Even more, if your HVAC system is starting to age – you may be in the market for a brand new system. With plenty of options out there, how do you decide which system is right for your home and family’s needs? Many homeowners like you have been looking into a mini-split system as an alternative to their traditional equipment. If you have questions about the benefits of installing a mini-split system, then we’ve got you covered as we unpack the benefits of installing a mini-split system.

What is a mini-split system?

Let’s start with first things first. If you’ve never heard of a mini-split system you may want to know a little more. A mini-split system is a ductless system where the compressor/condenser is installed in a unit on the outside of your home, and one or more air handling units are installed inside the home. They’ve become a popular HVAC option because they are flexible, compact in size, and allow you to have multiple heating/cooling zones in your home.

Benefit # 1: Easy Installation

When compared to a traditional system that uses ductwork to heat and cool your home, a mini-split system is easy to install. Typical installation requires drilling a small hole in your exterior wall where you install the exterior compressor/condenser unit and connect this to an interior unit with conduit. Gone are the long hours connecting ductwork to get your heat up and running. The interior air handlers are small in size and can be installed in any room on the wall, in the ceiling, or even on the floor.

Benefit # 2: Mini-Split & Energy Efficient

Mini-split systems are known to be energy efficient. The air handlers provide better cooling management as heat and air conditioning does not have to pass through duct work to heat or cool your home. Studies have shown that traditional ductwork can use 30% more energy as heat and AC is lost as it moves through ductwork. In a ductless system, your units conserve energy as you can control AC and heat to specific rooms and better manage your HVAC output.

Benefit #3: Multi-zone options

A mini-split ductless system allows for full heating and cooling control of separate areas of your property. You can choose to heat or cool your main living spaces and turn off air or heat to parts of your home that rarely get used when you don’t need them. These systems will allow you to program individual rooms or zones to save energy and money on your utility bills.

Benefit # 4: Easy Maintenance

Unlike their traditional counterparts, mini-split systems are easier to maintain. You’ll need a maintenance appointment once a year in the spring, but because of their compact size and ductless system – you won’t need frequent maintenance and service calls from an HVAC technician.

Benefit # 5: Improved Indoor Air Quality

Mini-split systems eliminate the need for duct cleaning. Traditional systems have ducts that can accumulate dust and dirt over time. When air is forced through your ducts through your vents, your air can be mixed with dirt and dust it picks up along the way. Installing a ductless mini-split system eliminates this possibility. Each inside unit has its own filter giving your home and family cleaner air all year long.

Mini-split systems are flexible, compact in size, programmable by zone, and easy to maintain which makes them a great option for your home. Still have questions about mini-split systems?
