When you want to keep the air in your home the best it can be, make sure to contact us. We can inspect your home and also the HVAC system. One part that will be inspected with the HVAC system is the ductwork. Cleaning the ducts should be done on a regular basis. We can help to determine if the ducts need to be cleaned, and can also schedule an appointment to clean them for you. Having the ductwork cleaned is necessary to help protect your health. Dust, mold, and debris from pests that are in the ductwork can end up in the air that you breathe. These contaminants in the air aggravate allergies and asthma that you and your family might have. The pollutants can also cause sinus issues and headaches. Between inspections from a profession, you can also inspect the ductwork. Look for any damage or cracks in the ductwork. This way you can help to prevent heat being leaked out of the ducts. Heat that escapes or leaks out is wasted and will end up costing you more on monthly heating bills. It can also cause your heating system to work harder and will result in more wear and tear on the furnace. Also make sure to look inside the ductwork or vents. If you see debris and dirt, chances are there the ductwork is dirty further back where you cannot see.

If Debris is Produced

If there is a buildup of dust and debris in the ductwork, it may eventually blow out of the registers. It can be in the form of dust clouds or small pieces of debris. This is noticed best by when the system turns on and air starts being produced. You can vacuum the inside of the register for a quick fix, but there will be dirt and debris further back. It is recommended to call to have a duct cleaning scheduled so clean air can be provided to your home again.

Presence of Dust & Mold

With the ductwork, open one of the access panels that will allow you to look inside the ductwork. Check for a buildup of dust and any evidence of mold growth. Mold will show up as patches of discoloration. This could be white, gray, brown, green, or pink in color. You can also look for mold at other parts of the heating system or areas around the filter. It is important to know that not all molds can be easily visible.

Indication of Pests in the Ductwork

While inspecting the ductwork, also check for signs of any pest infestation. Mice, ants, or spiders are a few of the pests that could be living in the ductwork. These pests can leave behind hair, droppings, nests, or decaying bodies. Eventually these particles can enter the air in your home. It is recommended to have the ductwork cleaned so the best quality air can be provided to your home.
