In 1902 Willis Carrier developed something that is used in a majority of homes today, the modern air conditioning system. While he was trying to solve a problem with humidity in a printing plant, he started to experiment with different components. By trying to control the humidity, he was able to solve the issue with heat and comfort levels. This system he developed sent air through coils filled with cold water. Then it would cool the air while also removing moisture in it. This then allowed the room to be controlled for the humidity levels. By 1933, the Carrier Air Conditioning Company produced and developed one using a belt driven condenser. This also had a mechanical control and evaporator coils. It has become the typical model for air conditioners in America.

While the same fundamentals have stayed with the air conditioner, some things have changed. Advancements to the vapor compression, sensors, controls, and efficiency have all taken place. This helps the system to perform better, while also being cost efficient in the long run. Newer air conditioners also have advanced components that will help it to run better, as well as quieter when it operates. Throughout the months, you can also do a visual inspection of different parts of the air conditioning system. Make sure that the thermostat is operating well. The set temperature and actual temperature should be very similar to each other. If it is not, we should inspect it for you. If there is an issue with it, the air conditioner may be working harder than it would otherwise need to.
