The ductwork should also be inspected and cleaned. When the ductwork is full of dirt, dust, and other particles, it can affect how it operates. Over time insects, rodents, dust, and even pet dander can collect in the ductwork. If it is not cleaned out properly, the heat will not be able to pass through the ductwork efficiently. This will produce less heat coming out of the vents of your home as well. If you can see dirt and debris in the ductwork through the vents, chances are it is even worth the further the ductwork goes. Having it cleaned is also a great time to have it inspected for any damage. If there are cracks, punctures, or holes in the ductwork, the heat can leak out of there. This causes the furnace to work harder than it should.
