ideal temperature

The ideal temperature for you home is important. It is not as simple as citing one specific temperature, especially as financial and energy usage concerns differ from one family and home to the next. But you should know the ideal temperature for your home is not eighty degrees.

Proper Setting

Every home has its temperature preference, but setting the thermostat to that temperature and never changing it isn’t helpful to your energy bills. Lowering the temperature further and preserving these lower temperatures for longer periods of time increases those savings. You can set the thermostat to the ideal temperature you want your home to be.

Setting the Thermostat at night

When you purchase a programmable thermostat, you can set the temperature to lower during the night when you sleep. You can also set the temperature lower when everyone is out of the house for the day. Before arriving home, or waking up, you can then program the thermostat. This will allow the home to be at the ideal temperature when you arrive home. Depending on what thermostat you purchase, you can set the thermostat to be the same each day. You could also have it be the same during the weekend, and another setting for the weekend.

Proper efficiency for your home

Another way to keep your home at the ideal temperature is to make sure it is energy efficient. Close doors and vents to unused rooms make it easier for the home’s furnace to deliver the desired temperature to occupied living spaces. Schedule an annual furnace maintenance and inspection. Having the furnace inspected on a regular basis will help ensure that it is efficient and you are not wasting heat that is produced. Seal cracks around the windows or doorjambs. If you feel a draft, you know you are losing heat out of it. This will result in higher monthly energy bills.
